Ashley Wood Golf Club

Constructed on downland, the fairways of Ashley Wood Golf Club are undulating and although hole 3 does have a short sharp hill, all others are easy walking. Four holes are played within Ashley Woods, ancient woodland carpeted with bluebells in May. Being natural chalk downland, the course drains very quickly and remains playable in all but the most extreme weather. Ashley Woods Golf Club course is par 70, totalling 6,270 yards long with some 'open' drives and some requiring more accuracy. It is a good test of golf for all levels of ability.

 

 

Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club

The challenging links course is unique as it is set on a cliff top and is part of the World Heritage coastline, an area of outstanding beauty. Large grass mounds, sculptured bunkers and stone walls are all inherent features of the course. The signature 6th hole at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club is known as Port Coombe, was recently voted in the top 100 holes in the world its a spectacular hole of only 133 yards but dropping from the top of the cliff to a green almost at sea level far below. At Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club there are magnificent sea views along the Chesil Bank to Portland Bill in the East and across Lyme Bay to Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast, in the West.

 

 

Broadstone Golf Club

The original golf course at Broadstone - known as the Dorset Golf Club - was laid out by Tom Dunn and was played to the east of the now disused Somerset and Dorset railway line and was part heathland and part parkland. In 1914, HS Colt was commissioned to redesign the course, holes 6, 7 and 8 were incorporated in existing land and holes 10 to 16 were laid out to the west of the railway line, thus changing the full 18 holes to heathland. Through the quality of the course, the Broadstone Golf Club has been selected to host many National, Regional and County Golf Tournaments.

The course is set within the school's 300 acres of mature parkland with many ancient trees and a rippling brook providing the context for some challenging holes of golf. There are 9 holes, but 18 different tees (the ladies have a total of 11 different tees). Some of the tees require long and accurate drives; like the 12th with its 195 yard carry over a brook; or the 13th with its 180 yard carry over a lake.

Highcliffe Castle Golf Club

This 18-hole course at the Iford Golf Centre is an amalgamation of old and new as it incorporates the land that originally formed the Iford Bridge Golf Course along with the new land that was developed in 2000 under the guidance of David Pottage. The full course now measures just over 6,300 yards and provides the golfer with a range of challenges, particularly involving water, as lakes and ditches come into play on 8 of the holes. The feature hole at Iford Golf Centre is undoubtedly the 9th, at 172 yards off the medal tees, this par 3 is often played into the prevailing wind. If that wasn't enough, the line to the green is across the corner of one of the lakes and any shot too far left or short is likely to end up threatening ducks rather than birdies.

 

 

Isle of Purbeck Golf Club

This 'fun club' was originally constructed and designed as a 6 Hole course in the late 1980s and a further 3 Holes were added in 1994 enabling an affiliation status. The Parley Court Golf Club course itself is a easy walking nine hole layout, that requires more course management than is at first apparent, not unduly long, but to score you had better find the fairways. After a comfortable start over the first three holes, you cross the road to a tricky short par 3, bunkered and with a water hazard, then the signature hole the 5th, double dogleg par 5 with the river right and ditches near the green.
